Odisha Society of the United Kingdom

Odisha Society of the United Kingdom is a voluntary organisation that facilitates the social and cultural needs of Odias who have settled in the UK. Odias are the local community of people from an Eastern state of India; Odisha. The state has a rich cultural heritage, and OSUK, has grown to become a link between Odisha and the UK, which continues to support a vision to platform Odia culture and values to those who so fondly call it home, but also in general to anyone that is interested through regular social and cultural community events, which brings about a beautiful fusion of all the stories and cultures that people bring to the events and conversations.

As a community, it is also a priority to support other communities too, so they fundraise for a plethora of charities and hospices; through performance, events and crowdfunding, so over the years they have supported a variety of causes, including natural disasters, who they continued to be able to support through the pandemic. Additionally, during their events, they collaborate with small businesses to expand experiences for all involved.

Akshita has sat on the Executive Board for OSUK as a Youth Ambassador, and supporting Cultural Executives since 2017; wearing so many different hats including event management, marketing, community engagement, international film festival liaison, public speaker and performer; singing, dancing, acting and most recently panel curator and host. In 2024, she was elected as a Cultural Secretary of OSUK.

Each year, OSUK also produces a Journal of their own, collated and edited by the Journal Secretary. Akshita has been contributing poems and short articles to the Journals since she was young, and in recent years, the Journal has become an online publication too, which can be found here:
